The pass can be used on Sanyo Shinkansen (between Shin-Osaka and Hakata), Kyushu Shinkansen (between Hakata and Kumamoto), normal reserved and non-reserved seating on Limited Express trains (including Chizu Express lines), Regular Express trains, and local service trains (including Special Rapid and Rapid services) as well as JR West Miyajima Ferry, West JR Bus (route buses), Chugoku JR Bus (route buses), and “Ekirinkun” Rent-a-Cycles.

* Passes are also valid for Nozomi and Mizuho trains of the Sanyo Shinkansen.
* This pass can be used for "Hello Kitty Shinkansen".
* Passes are not valid on Tokaido Shinkansen (toward Tokyo from Shin-Osaka).

How to Purchase

Purchasing Outside Japan

STEP1

Before entering Japan, obtain an exchange order for a rail pass from a travel agency or other source.

* The exchange order will be valid for three months from the date issued.
Ex.: If the exchange order is issued on May 2, it will be valid until August 1.

STEP2

After entering Japan, fill out the application form as necessary at an exchange location, and submit the completed application as well as an exchange order and your passport to receive the pass.

* The pass must be used within one month after exchange.
Ex.: If the pass is received on May 2, the pass must be used before June 1.

Purchasing within Japan

Fill out the application form as necessary at specified sales locations, and submit the completed application and your passport to receive the pass.

You must present your passport to receive a pass.
The eligible resident status as specified on the passport at the time entering Japan is “short-term stay (within 90 days).”

Notes on Usage

Eligibility

Sanyo–San’in Northern Kyushu Passes are available to any person holding a passport issued by a country other than Japan who enters Japan with a “short-term stay” resident status.

Eligibility as a short-term resident: Staying up to 90 days with the intent of tourism, etc. / With a passport stamp signifying the short-term stay status, provided by Immigration when arriving in Japan.

* People with Japanese nationality, including those with permanent residence abroad, are not eligible for the pass.

Pass Validity

The pass will be valid for seven consecutive days from the first day of use.
The pass will be valid at 0:00 from the start day to 24:00 on the last day (all times Japan Standard Time). However, if the validity period expires while riding a train on the last day, the pass will be valid for the fare until the following day so long as the passenger does not exit the station, and for ticket fees so long as the passenger does not depart the train.

Changes

Once issued, the validity period and pass type cannot be changed.
Validity periods will not be extended even in the event of non-availability of train services, delays, etc.

Refunds

A refund for an exchange order that has not yet been exchanged for a rail pass will be handled by the travel agency that issued the exchange order.
A refund for an exchange order that has been exchanged for a rail pass before the validity period begins will only be handled by the sales location that provided the pass. When refunding the pass, a charge of 10% of the sales price will be required, and the remaining balance will be refunded.
Refunds cannot be provided after the starting date.
Passes cannot be refunded due to reasons such as non-availability of service and delays.

Related Information

Passes can only be used by the person listed on the back.
Always keep your passport with you when riding the train and present it to an attendant if requested.
Passes will not be reissued in the event of loss or theft.
The terms and conditions of the pass are set by JR-West and Kyushu Railway Company, by the provisions and passenger carriage contracts of the lines of each company, and by the laws of Japan.
The terms and conditions of the rail pass exchange orders are determined by the issuing company’s provisions and agreements.
If there is any doubt regarding conditions of carriage written in a foreign language, the Japanese version of the conditions will be regarded as the official wording.
